A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is a facility designed to remove contaminants from wastewater (sewage), enabling the production of clean, treated water that can be safely discharged into the environment or reused for non-potable applications. It also manages and processes the resulting sludge byproducts in an environmentally responsible manner.
The treatment process typically occurs in four main stages:

Preliminary Treatment

Removes large debris (e.g., rags, plastics) and grit using screens and grit chambers.

Primary Treatment

Involves sedimentation, where solids settle at the bottom as sludge, and lighter materials like oils float to the top and are skimmed off.
